PALMERSTON Sports Meeting and Football Last Saturday the Palmerston Rugby Football Club, in conjunction with the Queen Carnival Sports Committee, held a combined sports meeting and football match at the Show Grounds, raising approximately £l9 for the Air Force Queen. The following were results of the sports meeting:—Children’s event (tyre race): G. Pagel 1, B. Lillicrap 2. Sack Race: E. Herd 1, C. Murdoch 2. Skip Race: J. Moir 1, D. Murdoch 2. Bicycle: Hitchcock 1. Herd 2. Relay: Murdoch’s team 1 (Wheeler, Gunn, Pagel, Murdoch, Paul). Put Shot: W. Shaw 1. Quoits; G. Reilly 1. Distance Step: J. Haggle 1. Kicking football; C. Warren. Basketball match; Flag Swamp defeated Palmerston. Relay Race, Police v. Football; Police 1. Stocko Sack Race: A. Low. Wheelbarrow Derby: Lex Mcßae 1. Cigarette Race: W. Shaw 1, N. Pearson 2. Saravatl Club At the September meeting of the Saravati Club there was a good attendance of members, and a programme of Irish music arranged by Miss Ellett and Mrs Low was given by the following:—Songs —Miss Dulcie Low, Mrs French, Mrs G. B. Smith, Mrs Wedge, Miss Galbraith, Miss E. Brown; vocal duet—Misses N. Brown and Palmer and an item by the Glee members; piano solos, Miss D. Vincent and Miss Stenhouse; violin solos, Miss A. Curran and Miss Hayes; recitations— Mrs Grey. Mrs Coutts, and Miss D. McGregor. OWAKA Rainfall The rainfall in Owaka for September totalled 1.12 inches, compared with 87 points in September last year. Rain fell on 15 days, the heaviest fall (29 points) occurring on September 9. Vital Statistics Registrations at Owaka for September were ;—Births 3 (2), marriages nil (nil), deaths nil (3). The figures in parentheses are those for September, 1939.
