TAIERI COMPETITIONS
DEMONSTRATION CONCERT The eighth demonstration concert of the Taieri Competitions Festival was held in the Coronation Hall. Mosglel, last evening. The Mayor (Mr W. P. Hartstonge) presided, and presented the prizes won at the competitions last week. The following made up a very enjoyable programme:— Operatic dance. Miss Joy Scott; song '“A Little Birdie ), Miss Sylvia Begg; recitation ("Forgiven ), Miss Dorothy Jones; pi?no solo (‘ Rigadoon”). Miss Nancy O’Fee; tap dance, Miss Eileen Healy; action song ( Alice Blue Gown ”), Miss Joan Mclnnes; pjayetto ("The Whisker”), Mrs E. Lobb s pupils; Highland fling. Miss June Outsell; action duet (” Court of Gay Versailles' ) Misses June Applegate and Thelma Jefcoate; piano solo, (“Goblins Frolic ). Miss Kathleen Harris; sword dance. M ss Shirley Joyce; humorous recitation ( the
Angel Child”), Miss Velma Lobb; vocal duet (” Rolling Down to Rio ”), Masters Arthur Berry and Blair Thomson; character sketch (“The Fairy Announcer”). Miss June Tregilgus; violin solo (“ Rondo ”), Miss Blanche Martin; tap dance, Miss Audrey Edmond; piano solo (“ Minuet ”), Miss Betty Stewart: sailor’s hornpipe, Miss Waveney Musson; operatic dance, Miss Shirley Stewart; vocal duet ("Spring-time”). Misses Rae Geddes and Doris Hill; playette ("Merry and Bright ”), Miss Swallow’s juveniles; piano duet (“A Sailor’s Dance”), Misses Averley Cheyne and Merle Gibson; dance duo (“True Love Never Runs Smooth”). Misses Helen Fraser and Ngalre Holland; song (“ Who is Sylvia? ”), Miss Margaret Stewart; piano solo (“ Scherzo in B flat”), Miss Joan Gibson: sean triubhais, Miss Rae Garland; character sketch (“Singin’ Lizzie”) Mrs D. WornaliSmith: song ("Song of the Nightingale”), Miss Dorothy Mutch; character dance, Miss Beverley Wix; piano duet (“Pastorale Dance”), Misses Rae Geddes and Dorothy SmelHe; recitation (“ The South Country”), Mr D Mitchell; vocal solo (" Ring, Bells, Ring ”), Miss Marion Dun-
can; humorous recitation (“A Tragedy of the Fifth”), Miss Mollic Crossan; vocal quartet ("Lullaby”). Mrs J. Williamson, Misses W. Gibson, N. Brown, and A. Gibson; Shakespearian recitation ("Juliet and the Nurse”), Miss Nessie Holland; sacred 1 solo (“When I Survey”). Miss Jessie Thomson; piano duet (“ Frohliche Stuche”), Misses Joy D. Wylie and Lorna V Oliver: vocal solo (” Brian of Glenaar”), Mr Wallace Cate; one-act play (“Suppressed Desires”), the Mosgiel Players (producer. Mr B. Wornall-Smith) A special prize—a medal for the local competitor with the most points in the juvenile elocution section—was awarded to Miss June Tregilgus. The president (the Rev, W. Edgar) in a few closing remarks, thanked all who had helped towards the success of the competitions.
