SUPPLY OF SHEARERS
EFFORT TO OVERCOME SHORTAGE APPEAL TO ALL SKILLED MEN (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 3. A shortage of shearers in many parts of the Diminion may be experienced by the farming community this season, especially in the southern districts, said the Minister of National Service (Mr R. Semple) in a statement to-night. He added that he had been giving the matter careful consideration and he wished to appeal to all skilled men to co-operate this year and avoid delay in shearing operations. The Minister pointed out that mui 1 of the shearing labour customarily available from Australia in oast years would not be available this season in New Zealand, and he appealed to all who had shearing exnerience to assist wherever possible. He added that special arrangements were being made to ensure that skilled men were not called up for military service during the season, and. moreover, co-opera-tion was being arranged through the Stale Placement Service so that shearing programmes could be fixed and loss of time on circuits avoided.
