WAR-TIME TRAVEL
PERMITS TO LEAVE NEW ZEALAND DECREASE IN APPLICATIONS (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 2. A decrease in the number of applications for permits to leave New Zealand is reported by the Minister of Internal Affairs. Mr W. E. Parry, who stated to-night that it was apparent New Zealanders were exercising sound judgment regarding travel in wartime. The merits of all claims for permits were thoroughly investigated, and there were difficulties where both men and women were concerned. Some men wished to return to the Home Country after a short residence in New Zealand, ' but had been here long enough to be eligible for national service. Many women wdshed to join their husbands overseas, but the conditions in Britain precluded permits being granted.
