CHRISTMAS COMFORTS
CHILDREN’S REST HOME APPEAL
The work of the Children's Rest Home (Incorporated) is one which makes a warm appeal to the public at all times, and at Christmas the need for funds becomes more acute so that there should be a good response to the call which is now being made to provide seasonal comforts for these children who are less fortunate than the majority. The main needs are for money, donations, children’s clothing, toys and suitable gifts for a picnic. Every Christmas the Rest Home provides a day's outing at Tahuna Park for the children of sick mothers in poor circumstances. Last year 273 children had such a treat and it is hoped to be able to offer similar pleasure to as many this year. The war has brought its difficulties to the institution, for the Otago Hospital Board has taken the Roslyn Home for the duration of the war for a Returned Soldiers’ Hospital and possession was taken on July 1. The work goes on as before, however, and now the children are boarded out with private people. This scheme has proved satisfactory, but it involves a direct expenditure of 15s per week for each child. Gifts may be left at the office. 114 Moray place (next the Public Library) or a collector will call if desired.
