MAORI HOSTEL
ERECTION IN HAMILTON PROVISION OF FINANCE (From Our Parliamentary Reporter • Authority for the Native Trustee to assist in financing the erection of a hostel to provide suitable accommodation for Maoris visiting Hamilton is given by a clause in the Native Purposes Bill, which was int 'oduced in the House of Representatives to-day. The Bill, which was described by the Minister of Native Affairs, Mr F. Langstone, as being a purely “ washing up ” measure, was read a second time pro forma and referred to . the Native Affairs Committee. It is proposed, with the aid of a Government subsidy, to build a hostel, and the Native Trustee intends to provide from moneys in the Auckland and Onehunga Native Hostelries Account Fund a sum not exceeding £250 towards the cost of furnishing and fitting the building, and an annual amount up to £SO for its upkeep and maintenance.
The Bill contains several other clauses of a miscellaneous nature.
