AMATEUR WRESTLING

OTAGO TITLES CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY Due to the fact that many of the local amateurs are on military service overseas or in camp, only 16 entries came forward for the Otago Wrestling Association’s annual championship tourney, which was held last night in the association’s gymnasium, and as a result it was found possible to reach the finals in the various divisions. An encouraging feature of the tourney was that the majority of the competitors were comparative newcomers to the sport, but notwithstanding this, the standard of the wrestling was uniformly good, and some of the new champions showed considerable promise. , . The bouts were of one six-minute and three three-minute rounds, and were conducted under the Olympic rules, which provided that the competitor winning by a fall received no bad points, while his opponent received three bad points.
