SHORE BATTERIES
OCCUPIED BY JAPANESE NAVAL BASE IN INDO-CHINA HANOI, Sept. 27. (Received Sept. 29, at 7 p.m.) The Japanese have occupied the Dosom shore batteries protecting Haiphong, thus securing their first naval base in Indo-China. The French said it was a minor incident and unlikely to have repercussions. The Japanese have established their headquarters in the premises of the Sino - American South - Western Transportation Company, which previously imported American trucks to China. It is estimated that there were 1000 new trucks awaiting delivery which have now been confiscated. , It is officially stated that the French have asked Tokio to send-a plenipotentiary to Indo-China to halt the Canton army's continued southward advance,- which the, French army is not opposing. .The, French said Major-general Nishihara had failed in his efforts to halt the army and was now en route to Tokib on board a transport. ■:.
