MOTORING INTERESTS
SOUTH ISLAND UNION OFFICE-BEARERS ELECTED (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH. Sept. 27. Mr W. R. Carey (Christchurch) was re-elected president without opposition of the South Island Motor Union at the annual meeting to-day. The vicepresidents are Lieutenant-colonel C. M. Rout (Nelson) and Messrs P W. Breen (Otago) and M. M. Macdonald (Invercargill). A ballot for the executiye resulted as follows: —Messrs G. Morris. J. S. Hawkes, F. W. Freeman. A Donaldson and B Falck. The conference, which was opened by the Deputy Mayor, Mr J. S’. Barnett, approved of a number of rules covering the caravan sections of the association, and also proposed amendments to the pedestrian crossing and safety zone regulations and proposals dealing with school patrols. , On the motion of Mr F. W. Miller (Southland), the executiye was .instructed to formulate uniform privileges for members of associations serving with the forces overseas. The opinion of the delegates was that the privileges should be extended to the next-of-kin. . It was decided to hold meetings or the union half-yearly during the war.
