QUEEN CARNIVAL
*’ MYSTERY PARCELS” A SUCCESSFUL EFFORT The “ mystery parcel day ” held yesterday in aid of the Army Queen’s candidature was most successful from the point of view of the patrioticfunds. In all, 45,000 tickets were on sale for Is, and for each one of these there were prizes of about an average value of a little over sevenpence. The value of some was even as low as threepence, and in very few cases was there much mystery attached to them. But then, of course, there was always the possibility that the purchaser of a ticket might win a gas cooker or an article valued at £ 1 or 10s, and the slim chance was, no doubt, irresistible Although there are numerous returns still to come in, for the tickets were distributed over a wide area to shops and factories, it appears that a very big proportion of the tickets was sold. £IOOO for Mystery Bags The popularity of the mystery bag idea as a means of raising funds for patriotic purposes is demonstrated by the fact that, notwithstanding the ready sale yesterday of packets, merchants, manufacturers and business houses have supplied a multiplicity of gift parcels which were not received at the army depot until selling had ceased yesterday. These will be offered again tms morning and up till 1 p.m.. and the public can be assured of a variety of opportunity and chance which probably exceeds the possibilities of the first day’s sales. The proceeds of today’s business in mystery bags, like* that of yesterday will be devoted to the funds of the Army Queen. A sum of £IOOO was netted vesterday by the sale of these “ Mystery ” warrants, and. considering the inducements that still offer, this form of giving to highly commendable purposes should have a further fillip to-day. IVOR NOVELLO’S “FULL HOUSE ” QUEEN CARNIVAL PRESENTATION That delightful English comedy “Full House,’’ modern in script, setting and atmosphere, has been selected as the Otago Queen Carnival presentation, to be staged in His Majesty’s Theatre for a season of four performances—October 23. 24, 25 and 26. “ Full House ” is full of the author’s brilliant sense of humour, full of fun, full of fascinating and at times awkward situations.
