MEETING OF COMMITTEE A meeting of. the committee of the Maniototo Hospital Board, held in Ranfurly, was attended by Messrs T. A. Lowis (chairman), W. C. Davis, and M. H. Hanrahan. members of the committee, and Dr W. S. Eudey, medical superintendent. Superintendent's Report The superintendent's report stated that there were six males and nine females in the hospital at the date of the last return, and 10 and 20 respectively were admitted during August, making 45 treated. Eleven males and 14 females were discharged during the month, while one male patient had died, leaving 15 under treatment at the end of the month. Nine babies were born in the hospital daring August. Correspondence Dr Costello, honorary medical officer, applied for three months' leave of absence, stating that he had been asked by the military authorities to go to Burnham camp.—The board decided to grant the necessary leavo The Lauder Medical Club wrote asking for an increase in its annual grant by the sum of £lo.—The board decided to increase the grant by the amount, provided the amount of the increase was set aside each year for maintenance expenditure only. Advice was received from the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee that a patient frum the Maniototo district had been admitted to the sanatorium on August It!. Advices were also received from the Otago and Waitaki Hospital Boards relating to treatment of patients from Maniototo in the Dunedin and Oamaru Hospitals respectively. The Hospital Boards' Association wrote asking the board's views whether the general order of the Arbitration Court regarding the 5 per cent, increase in the wages payable to members of the domestic staff should be made to apply to those members of the staff whose salaries were not covered by an award.—The matter was held over for consideration by the full board. A further letter was received from the Hospital Boards' Association with reference to the general conference in 1941. and group insurance. It was recommended that, as a war economy measure, the conference should be adjourned sine die. and with regard to group insurance, it was recommended that the scheme be given a further trial for three years.— Both recommendations were agreed to. Tenders for Supplies The following tenders were accepted:— Meat W. Pringle. Ranfurly; groceries, Thomas Gilchrist and Sons. Ranfurly: bread, Jones and Co.. Ranfurly: milk, G. R. Beattie. Ranfurly: cartage. Ward Bros., Ranfurly: coal. Ward Bros.. Ranfurly. Finance * The secretary reported that the receipts for August amounted to £299 7s Bd. and at the date of the meeting there was a credit balance in the bank amounting to £133 18s 7d. Accounts and salaries amounting to £554 4s lid were passed for payment.
