Ihc following quotations per 1001 b for beef and per lb for mutton and pigs are supplied, with a comparison with last week’s prices, by our special representative at yesterday’s Burnside

£lB 2s Gd; prime cows and hellers, £l3 12s Gd to £l6 2s Gd; medium cows and heifers, £lO 7s Cd to £l2 2s Gd: light cows and heifers, from £7 7s Gd. Dairy cows had a yarding of 37 head, the quality not being good,. Best cows at profit made from £7 10s to £9 5s Late calvers were difficult of sale. In the store cattle pens 180 head were yarded, a good number being two and three-year-old steers. A good sale resulted, but the extreme rates of late sales were not maintained, and there was a general easing of 5s per head for all classes of steers. Cows and heifers suitable for graziers again met a good sale, while other sorts realised late rates. Three and four-year bullocks made £lO 12s Gd to £ll 5s and 2i-year-old steers £7 to £7 10s. Another small entry of sheep was forward, numbering 1311. On the whole, the quality of both ewes and wethers was good, as there was only a small percentage of light-weights. The sale opened with keen competition for all grades, and values showed an appreciation of 2s to 3s per head. Towards the close there was a slight easing tendency. Hoggets met a good sale. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 54s 3d; prime wethers, 46s to 49s Gd; medium wethers, 38s 6d to 42s 9d; light wethers, from 255; extra prime ewes made to 46s 9d; prime heavy ewes, 38s 9d to 44s 3d; medium ewes, 35s to 37s 6d; light ewes, down to 29s Gd. Five spring lambs were forward, and sold keenly at up to 37s Gd. Of the 164 fat pigs penned, baconers and porkers were even in respect of numbers. It was most noticeable at auction that heavy baconers were not wanted, and this class drew little or no competition from buyers, prices being 5s to 8s back on the previous week’s rates. Heavy porkers were also easier by 3s to 4s per head; light porkers, on the other hand, met a steady sale, late rates being maintained. Heavy baconers made from £4 5s to £4 10s; medium, £4 9s to £5; heavy porkers, £3 15s to £4 3s: light, £2 15s to £3 12s. In the store pig pens 118 were penned, a good sale resulting, with prices easier by 2s per head. Good stores made 35s to 40s and weaners 24s to 295.
