BRITAIN AND NEW ZEALAND IMPORTERS' REPLY TO MR NASH (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 23. " The Minister's statement does not accord with* the constant appeals from Britain for increased orders by importers throughout New Zealand." said Mr Gainor Jackson, president of the Bureau of Importers, to-day. criticising the statement of the Minister of Finance (Mr W. Nash) that "Britain does not want credits in New Zealand, but wants them in countries where the credits will do more good." Mr Jackson said that Britain was endeavouring by. every means in her pow«»; to increase her exports so that her war effort could be sustained by the economic arm.
" In•■" the light of trade balances'- in recent years,", Mr "Mr Nash's policy, of import restrictions would appear to be anything but helpful to the United Kingdom." He said that for the seven -months: this year to July exports to Britain were £43,994.256, and imports £14.234.326. showing an excess of exports of £29,759,930. This large and increasing disparity in trade spoke for itself.
