SECOND SESSION OF FESTIVAL The Taieri Competitions Festival, winch was commenced on Saturday at Mosgiel, was continued in the Coronation Hall last night The Rev. E. P. Y Simpson was chairman, and there was a fair attendance. Results:— Piano Solo <l6 and under 18) Four entries.—Joan Gibson 1. Helen Logie 2. Dorothy Mutch 3 The judge said that the winner's tone quality was on the whole satisfactory and a fan attempt was made at expression. Action Duet in character lunder 15). Three entries.—June Applegate and Thelma Jefcoate 1. June Tregilgus and Lois Pope 2 Shirley Stewart and Audrey Edmond 3 The Judge remarked that there was some effective stage work and fine costuming in this section The winners were artistic and had pleasing voices. The second prize winners showed excellent stagecraft but were not such a strong pair vocally

Playette. 6 players (12 and under 16) One entry.-—Miss M Swallow's juveniles. Merry and Bright," 1 The players were Betty Fairmaid, Billy McCunn, Noeline Campbell and Beverley Swallow. Ten entries.—The following were recalled to Wednesday's session:—Joan Mclnnes June Tregilgus, Hilary Mason and Betty Applegate. Also competed: Murray Edmond Jack Geddes, Bruce McGregor Lois Pope, Velma Lobb and Claire Beattie. Humorous Recitation (12 and under 16). Three entries.—June Applegate 1, June Walker 2, Betty Tunzelman 3 This was not a very good class, the judge said. The winner had a pleasing personality, and brought out her points well The competitor placed second showed promise Piano Duet (15 and under 18). Three entries.—Joy Wylie and Lorna Oliver, and Rae Geddes and Dorothy Smellie (equal) 1. Allister Ryan and lan Watt 3.
Action Song in Character (12 and under 15).—Recalls: Shirley Mcßae. June Applegate and Blair Thomson. Also competed: Shirley Stewart. Arthur Berry, Audrey Edmond, June Valpy Margaret Stewart and Katie Stewart. Character Sketch (16 and over).—Mrs D. Womall-Smith 1, Miss M. Crossan 2. The only competitors. The judge said that both competitors had given good performances The winner had a good sense of humour.
In the list of awards published yesterday two names were wrongly grouped for firsl place in class 35, recitation (under nine) The correct placing was Velma Lobb and Dorothy Jones equal for first place, and Ronald Lobb third This evening the programme will consist of national dancing, juvenile songs, duets and pianoforte solos, adults' pianoforte solos. Indies' solo and adults' vocal duets and quartets
