PORT OF OAMARU High Water.—B.o a.m. and 8.29 p.m. Coastal Movements The Karu is due to-day to load for Wellington, Nelson and New Plymouth, via Titnaru and Lyttelton. The Wainui will load on Wednesday October 2, for Wellington. Napier and Gisborne. via ports The Waipiata is due early next week for Wellington and Auckland, via Timaru and Lyttelton. PERSONAL At a meeting of the Olago Egg Circle recently Mr N. M. Fraser was the recipient of a cheque from the committee. The chairman (Mr James Hutton), who made the presentation, referred to the splendid service that Mr Fraser had given throughout the 17 years he had been associated with the circle He asked Mt Fraser to accept the cheque as a tangible expression of the committee's gratitude. A motion of sympathy was passed by the Waitakl Electric Power Board yesterday morning with Mr A Mclnncs in the death of his brother. Mr E. P. Houghton, manager of the Oamaru branch of the South British Insurance Company. Ltd., will retire on superannuation at the end of September. Mr Houghton is well known in North Otago, having been the company's representative in Oamaru for the past 18 years. He has completed nearly 40 years' service with the company Mr Houghton, who is not enjoying the best of health is al presenl on holiday. Visitors to the Town New Club Hotel.—Mr and Mrs G. 11. Smith. KUROW Patriotic Ball The funds of the local Patriotic Society have been considerably increased as the result of a ball organised by the staff of the Waitakl Supply Store. The manager. Mr A. Dunstan, has handed over a cheque for £35 10s. representing the net proceeds. Patriotic Community Sins A community sing conducted by the staff of station 4ZB and other helpers in aid of the Air Force Queen Fund was held in the Memorial Hall on Friday The gross proceeds of the evening amounted to approximately £lls. a notable effort for one night. The members of the party were entertained next day at a hare shoot on the Waitangi estate of Mr Sutton
