Miss Ada. Fache, of the Duriedm Public Library, has been appointed librarian of the Rangiora Free Public Library, and will leave shortly to take up her new duties.

The committee of the Combined Exgirls' Service Group will be in charge of the Dug-out on Saturday next, September 28. and will be grateful to members for donations of flowers, cakes, jam, produce, etc.

Lativ Wilford. who arrived recently from England, has left Wellington for the south to stay with her sisters. Misses K. and B. McLean, at their cottage at Hampden.

Mesdames C. C. Anderson (Invercargill), Len. Allan (Waimate), E. Norden (New Plymouth), and F. Duncan (Alexandra) are visiting Dunedin to welcome their mother, Mrs i. E. Shrimpton, on her return from England.

Dr and Mrs C. C. Anderson, of Invercargill, gave a luncheon party at the Savoy yesterday in honour of Mrs F. E Shrimpton. Those present were Mesdames F. Duncan (Alexandra), E. Norden (New Plymouth), L. Allan (Waimate), Neville Shrimpton, and Misses Ann Pithie and Lenore Allan.

Mrs A. H. W. Williams and her two children have returned from London. They are staying with Mrs Williams's parents, Mr and Mrs G. H. Thomson, of Milton. Mr Williams has remained in England, where he has a language appointment with (he 8.8. C.

Miss Olive Cochrane (Wellington), Miss M. S. Hale (Dunedin) and Mrs W. Andrews and Mrs P. Scott (Invercargill), who have been visiting Kurow for the marriage of Mr D. B. Robinson and Miss R. L. Cochrane, have returned to their homes.

Prior to her marriage last week Mrs R. H. Bryant (nee Constance Shennan) was entertained at a number of parties arranged by her fellow-nurses on the staff of Prospect House. The presentation of a handsome chiming clock was made, and from each guest the bride-to-be also received a personal gift.

The North Dunedin branch of the Home Economics Association held its final meeting for this year on Thursday last, when visitors from sister branches were present. Miss Keilor gave a talk on " Milestones in New Zealand History," Mrs White proposing a vote of thanks to the speaker.

Mrs R. Hogan was hostess at a happy " trump whist" party at her residence, "Strowan," Musselburgh Rise, on Wednesday evenine last, in aid of funds for the Navy Queen. Her guests were the members of the Onslow Ladies' Golf Club and their friends. Cards were played in th lounge and a buffet supper served in the dining-room. A. J. Holloway and J. Mrs Coatsworth presided.at the meeting of the Stirling branch of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union. Each member contributed to the programme, which took the form of a roll call. Mrs J. G. Weir reported on the annual meeting of the P.A. Miss Smail! read a letter from Miss Salmond. and Mrs Lawrence read an account of the union's work in China. A prayer circle preceded a talk on hospital work in India, contributed by Mrs S. Willocks. of the New Hebrides Mission

Members and friends of the Every Girls' Club who gathered on Monday last in the club's cosy lounge enjoyed a delightful musical treat, the guests of the evening being the Opoho Women's Choir, under the capable leadership of Mrs Carson. The programme consisted of solos by Mrs Henderson and Miss Hands; duets by Mesdames L. Blackwood and Johnstone - pianoforte solos by Mrs Blackwood (who also acted as accompanist for the evening) and pleasing part sonps by the choir. Interspersed between the items were violin solos by Miss Meffin. Scottish recitations by Mrs Oliver and bright and breezy sketches by Miss Billie Loan. Miss Reid, Miss Jean Crawley and Miss M. Hutchison voiced the praise of all present and congratulated the performers on an enjoyable programme. The usual . war work was distributed and members were reminded of the excellent programme arranged for October 7.

Miss E. M. Couston, who will leave for the north to-day after severa weeks' stay in Dunedin as the guest of Miss Valmai Sundstrum. has been appointed dietitian at the New Plymouth Hospital. Miss Couston has been on the staff of the Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch. and she will take up her duties at New Plymouth on January 1. 1941. Miss Couston -obtained her diploma in home science at the University of Otago in 1932. in which year she left for England to commence training at the Royal Northern Hospital. On completing the six months' course, she continued for a further six months at St. Bartholomew's Hospital Later, she secured an appointment as assistant dietitian at the Royal Northern Hospital, and was finally aDpointed head dietitian. Shortly afterwards she was sr-ked to return to New Zealand, and came to Lewisham Hospital, where she has been since January. 1937.
