AIR FORCE QUEEN'S TOUR CONCERT AT QUEENSTOWN

Continuing her tour of Central Otago, the Air Force queen. Miss Mary Pratt, was the guest of honour at a successful concert at Queenstown on Friday night, when there was one of the largest and most representative attendances in the history of the district. The arrangements were in the hands of Captain Herbert, and were complete in every way. The queen and her party were received most enthusiastically and were welcomed on behalf of the district by Dr Anderson, Mayor of Queenstown, and Mr D H Cockburn, chairman of the Lakes Patriotic Committee. Miss Pratt was attended by her maids of honourMisses Jill Lethbridge. Joan Scaife, Betty Thomas, Alwyn Nichol, Mary Bennetts and Joyce Howell. The concert was a thorough success, and, in addition to the door takings, proceeds from a flag appeal brought in £34 10s. Miss Pratt delighted the audience with her singing of "England, Our Island Home," "There'll Always Be an England," and "Bonny Banks of Loch Lomond." Supporting items were given by Miss Nichol (elocutionary numbers'), by Messrs James McDonald and W. E. Scott and Miss D. Shgo (songs), Mr J. Groomes (violin solo) ; and a choral item by the St. Joseph s girls. ■ When the queen arrived in Queenstown a pressing invitation awaited her to visit Glenorchy. Arrangements have now been made for Miss Pratt and her party to travel up the lake today - u * On Saturday afternoon members of the official party were the guests of the Arrowtown Women's Committee and the W.D.F.U. at an enjoyable function. The Mayor and Mayoress of Arrowtown, Mr and Mrs James, extended a welcome to them, and Mr Cockburn also spoke. Miss Pratt acknowledged the welcome, and Misses Dorothy Sligo and Margaret Pratt sang enjoyable numbers.
