Giving Away Time Happy Man, Haughty, Joan Potts, and Passing By. who have been paid up for in the Orari Trot, are giving away 36 yards, and presumably will not start unless successful in the slower class early in the day. Wellington Stakes Of the 13 . payments received for the Wellington Stakes last week only one Definite, dropped out on acceptance night This leaves a field of 12 promising three-year-olds to compete this week end, and with the inclusion of proved horses in Special Force, Walter Moore, Village Maid, Gold Chief, Shadow Maid, and Surprise Potts, the success of the race as a betting medium is assured Wellington Handicap Four withdrawals from the Wellington Handicap reduced the candidates to eight, including the bracketed Accountant and Ferry Post, which leaves a two-dividend field. Winners of this season engaged are Accountant, Lady Milne, and Ferry Post, and it is possible that the favourite will come from this division. All are proved performers over two miles, and their recent form has been good Cruiser and Mongolian are improvers, and Parauri is a worthy Auckland representative Trotting Cup i At present there are 10 pacers eligible to take advantage of the two seconds swinging limit in the Trotting Cup, but it is unlikely (says the Timaru Herald) that the owners of some of them will be ready to give away two seconds to start The limit will be 4.26, with horses assessed up to 4.28- allowed to run. A bonus of £IOO will be paid to any horse which gives away time and finishes third; and the right is reserved to reject any acceptance if there is a likelihood of a congested field.
