Farewell at Maclennan There was a large attendance at Maclennan on the occasion of a public farewell to Messrs J. Tretheway and J. S. Crossan. who will be going into camp as members of the fourth reinforcements. The function took the form of a dance, music for which was provided by an amlifier, and by Messrs Goodsir and Callahan. Mr F. McKay played an " extra " on the pipes. During the supper interval. Mr R. Glendinnlng, on behalf of the residents of Maclennan and surrounding districts, presented each of the men with an envelope containing a sum of money. He expressed the wish that they have the best of luck and that they would return to their friends at Maclennan. Mr J. Blair, on behalf of the Tahakopa Lawn Tennis and Football Clubs, presented Mr Crossan with an inscribed fountain pen and pencil. Both men, who were greeted with musical honours and cheers, made suitable replies. Mr J. Crossan has been teacher at the Kahuika School for the past three years, and Mr Tretheway has been employed as a surfaceman on the New Zealand Railways. Catling School Discussion Circle On Thursday a farewell was made to Mr J. S. Crossan at Maclennan by fellowmembers of the Catlins Schools' Discussion Circle. Mr L. Cannon presided and asked Mr Crossan to accept a gift from his teacher friends in the Catlins area. He referred to Mr Crossan's organising ability in the Sports Association, and said that his departure as a member of the fourth reinforcements would mean a big loss to the district. Other speakers endorsed Mr Cannon's remarks, and Mr Crossan suitably replied,
