Queen Carnival At a recent meeting local stock agents and lamb buyers formed an association for the purpose of assisting the districts effort in a stock drive to raise funds for the Air Force queen. Mr R. A. Long was elected chairman, and Mr I. W. Anderson secretary. Arrangements were made for a comprehensive canvass or the whole county in conjunction with local sub-committees, and this will be put in hand within a few days. Opportunity was also taken at the meeting to bid farewell to Mr T. P. O'Connor, representative for Messrs Dalgety and Co., who has received notice of his transfer to Cromwell. Mr McKiUop. proposing the health of the guest, expressed the regret of the agents and buyers at his departuie from Ranfurly,' and wished him success in his new sphere. LAWRENCE District High School The monthly meeting of the Lawrence District High School Committee was held last Friday night, the chairman (Mr F. J. Gray) presiding. Mr D. Christie, who has received a military appointment, wrote tendering his resignation as a member of the committee, and thanked all members for their co-operation with him over about 14 years.—The resignation was accepted with regret, and it was decided to thank Mr Christie for his past services, and wish him luck in his new appointment.— In order to fill the vacancy it was decided to call a meeting of householders on October 4. The headmaster reported a slight increase in the attendance. Summer games had been commenced, and thanks were extended to those who had given tennis rackets and sports gear for the use of the pupils. It was decided to appoint Mr Aimers as the visiting committeeman for the ensuing month, and he was given full power to have any repairs to the drain properly attended to. The finances of the committee were fully discussed, for, despite the raising of nearly £lB recently, the funds are at a low ebb. The general feeling of the meeting was that the Education Department should increase the allowance to the school.—Eventually it was left to the chairman and secretary to draft a suitable letter setting out the position of the committee and asking the Otago Education Board and the Education Department for a special grant.
