DUNEDIN ORPHANS' CLUB

LADIES' NIGHT The meeting of the Dunedin Orphans' Cub last nigh, was one of the most important on the year's calendar, and, as usual " Ladies' Night" attracted a large attendance The president (Bro. A. Macdonald) was in the chair. The programme was of a rather elaborate nature and reflected credit on the organisers. The first half consisted of miscellaneous items, but in the second half there was a song scena of a nautical nature, The evening's entertainment was concluded with dancing. The programme was as follows: Dunedin Orphans' Club Orchestra (conductor, Bro. James Clark), Centennial March. ' Poneke" (A. H. Pettitt). "Pique Dame" (Suppe); song Prologue from " Pagliacci." Bro. Ft. J Laurenson (with orchestra] accompaniment): recitation, "Babies.'" Bro H W. Hunter; song. "Ah. Moon of My Delight." Bro. J. MacFarlane; violin solo "Meditation," from "Thais." Bro. R Kerr (with orchestral accompaniment): song, "Boys of the Royal Navy." Bro E. Ottrey, assisted by Bros. G. A. Wycherley and A. H. Pettitt: orchestra "Gems of Scotia" (Bros. P. L McKillop and A. McMillan, pipers) The deck of a ship was the scene for the second half of the programme, when the following items were given: Opening chorus, " Carry On," the Crew; song, To the Ladies. Bro. W. Stevenson; duet, "Sailors Philosophy," Bros. R. McDougall and J. W. G. Pringle; recitation. " Ballad of the Bolivar," Bro C. H. Russell; song, "Trade Winds," Bro. B. Deighton; Ledgerdemain (and act), Bro. T. R. Thomson; song, "Take Me Back to Dear Old Blighty," Bro. R. Wilson Brown; trio, "Three Jolly Sea Dogs," Bros. W. Stevenson, J. W G. Pringle, and R. McDougall; song at the piano. Bro. A. Clarke; humorous item, "My Old Clay Pipe," Bro. R. P. Murphy; song, "Asleep in the Deep,' Bro. P. H. Oates; sketch, "Dirty Work in the Bulwarks," Bros. R. Wilson Brown and R. S Moloney; song, "The Army, the Navy, and the Air Force." Bro. R. McDougall; piano accordian, Bro. W. Mawhinney; song. " Drake Goes West." Bro J. W. G. Pringle; quartet. "Military A.8.C.," Bros. R. S. Moloney, W. Stevenson, A. Clarke, and ■R. Wilson Brown.
