OTAGO ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Otago Anglers' Association was held in Mann's Buildings last night. Mr J. Rhodes presided, and there was a good attendance of members A Successful Season Moving the adoption of the annual report the chairman said thai the past season was the best the association aaci experienced for a number of years,,the entries in the various competitions representing a 100 per cent, increase on those for previous years. The credi balance at the end of the season was £29 13s. which represented a profit of nearly £3 on the year's activities. The report was adopted. Election of Officers The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr D. Hunier: immediate pas' president, Mr S. Raffills: vice-presi-dents, Messrs C. Kenward and H. J Millow; committee—Messrs S. Medder W Young, I. Hodding. H. Horder. A Mitchell. L. Griffiths., J. Chapman. J Jackson, R. F. Peters. G. Peate. and A. Everest; joint secretaries, Messrs R. Joyce and R. Wilson: treasurer. Mr W T. Brailey: auditor. Mr C. A. Wilson. Toll of the Shag A leng'hy discussion was precipitated by a suggestion that bait-casting should be prohibited on rivers in Otago. The argument ranged from the desirabilitv of the present size restrictions existing in various par's of Otago to the relative lolls taken of fish by anglers and shags. The bait-casters were defended by Mr H. G. Williams, who said that tlie exponents of the dry fly took far more fish than anyone else, and then the speaker told the meeting something of the results of his researches into the habits and appetites of shags, It was decided to urge the Otago Acclimatisa ion Society to prosecute the destruction of shags relentlessly.
