PALMERSTON Cribbagc Match A return match between the ’’ Stocko ” and Railway Clubs was played on Saturday evening. The following is the draw, which resulted 32 all: —Railway: Bryan and Dougherty 3. Lorrimer and Roberts 3. Curran and Hanrahan 6, McGregor and Waugh 8, Guthrie and Simpson 6 Kelly and Lees 6; —total, 32, Stocko. Grand! and Paul 10, Perriam and Sutherland 6, Olsen and Hudson 5. Sutherland and Dougherty 3, Sinclair and Logie 4, Thomson and Arnott 4; —total. 32. _ Rugby Football An unofficial Rugby football match between the Police (Dunedin) and Palmerston teams was played at the Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon. The proceeds were devoted to the Air Force Queen who made a persona! appearance at the match The attendance was large. In the first spell the visitors were definitely superior, and led by 14 points to 5 at halt time. Both teams scored three points in the second spell, in which the local fifteen had perhaps, the better of the run oi play. For the winners, Black scored and converted one try and kicked a penalty goal. Dalzlel, Tunnell, and Grimwood also scored. Parkhill (2) and Cameron scored for Palmerston. Mr C. M. Olsen was the referee. As a result of the club s effort, the carnival funds will benefit to the extent of £l2 Lawn Tennis Club
At the annual meeting of the Palmerston Lawn Tennis Club Mr W R Lees presided. The following officers were elected tor the coming season:—President, Mr H. G. Wooding: vice-presidents. Miss M. G. Gordon and Mr W. R Lees; secretary, Mr J. G Mann: club captain, Mr G. W Thomson: selector, Mr J. F. Adams; auditor, Mr W. B. Galloway: General Committee—Miss F. Ross, Mrs H. Barnett, Miss H. Challis, and Mr T. W. Ruston; delegates to sub-association, Messrs H. G. Wooding and G. W. Thomson. It was decided to hold the official opening of the season on October 19. WAIKOUAITI Queen Carnival The bring-and-buy sale and social and dance held on Friday in connection with the Air Force Queen funds were very well patronised, the funds being increased approximately £SO. During the evening the Countess of Waikouaiti (Miss Alwyn Nichol) was introduced by the Mayor (Mr Andrew Fell). Items were given by the Maori ladies’ party, also Mesdames Demus and Townsend and Mr R. Parata. Messrs Cameron and Brown supplied the music, and Mr C. T. McCallum acted as M.C. Waste Material In connection with the collection of waste materials, Miss Cochrane, of the Girl Guides movement, has kindly offered the services of that body, and arrangements have been made to call on the householders in Waikouaiti borough and Karitane next Saturday to collect the following;—Aluminium, brass, bronze, gunmetal, copper and lead. WAIMATE
First White Butterflies The first white butterflies seen in the district this season were noticed by a resident of Waimate last week. It is feared that following on the mild winter experienced, with heavy frosts few and far between. these pests will be in greater numbers this year. Golf Club The Waimate Golf Club’s Mixed Foursomes was won by Mrs J. W. Hayes and R. Murcheson 2 up. The final of the Mixed Foursomes Competition tor the Hamilton Cup was also played, and Mr and Mrs T. Waldie beat Miss E. Bitchener and I. Schrader three up and two to play
