An instance of patriotic zeal, which gained the approbation of members, came before a meeting of the Paparua County Council (states the Christchurch Press). A complaint had been made about a woman ratepayer allowing her pigs to wander on the roads. By way of explanation she wrote that she had allowed her neighbours to breed from her stock, and the roaming animals may have belonged to them. Should anyone be seeking to start an argument, however, she said she would not be able to participate because she was concentrating on increasing production for a bigger war.
