FIRE AT MATAURA
OUTBREAK IN MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE (Per United Press Association) GORE, Sept. 13. Fire early this morning extensively damaged the Mataura Borough ' Council Chambers and the Coronation Hall. The brigade faced a difficult task; owing to the fire having spread from the rear of the building to the ceiling, and an hour elapsed before the flames were subdued. The Public Library, containing 2000 books, suffered . through fire, smoke, and water, as also did the reading room, where valuable photographic records were destroyed. The- main office, however, escaped lightly, and the contents of the strongroom and the office records are intact The insurance was £IOOO on the building and furnishings, held by the Standard Office.
