KILLED BY A HORSE
MRS BASIL SANDERSON WIFE OF SHAW SAVILL DIRECTOR (From Our Own Correspondent) LONDON, Aug, 15. The wife of Mr Basil Sanderson, a director of Shaw, Savill and Altaian Company, was lulled recently while hiding her first horse-riding lesson. She was a daughter of the late Mr Bruce Ismay, chairman of the old White Star Line. Mr Sanderson holds an important post at the Ministry of Shipping. A pony which had been lent by Mrs M. B. U. Dewar, of Stagenhoe Park, near Hitchin, reared and fell on her when she was about to take her first ride on it. She died from her injuries in Hitchin Hospital. A verdict of accidental death was returned at the inquest. Captain Thomas Townsend Radmore, retired, who owns a riding school, said that the pony was usually quiet and was often ridden by children at rallies of the South Herts Pony Club. After Mrs Sanderson was comfortably seated in the saddle he started to lead the aiiimal away, holding it by the rein.
“ The pony reared and went over backwards on top of Mrs Sanderson without any warning quicker than anything I have ever seen in my life,” he said.
“ I can give no explanation of this unless the pony was stung by a w,asp -r something of lhat sort.”
