FARM WORKERS
MARRIED MEN’S WAGE INCREASED ALLOWANCE An inarease from 12s 6d to £1 a week in 'the accommodation allowance payable to married farm workers who have to live away from their families came into effect on Monday. This step has been taken to make farm work more attractive to married men as part of the Government’s plan to bring about increased production. The wage usually paid to a married couple on a farm ranges from £3 5s to £3 10s a week, with various concessions. and in the past a married man working on a farm has been paid, £2 10s or £2 12s 6d a week, together with a board and lodging allowance of £1 a week, and an accommodation allowance of 12s 6d a week. The last allowance has now been raised to £1 a week, which is designed to overcome the disadvantage of a man who has to keep two homes going and to remove the objections of married men to working in the country. hr- ' v-
