WARNED OFF
FISHERMAN IN HARBOUR SHOTS FIRED BY FORTS INCIDENTS IN WELLINGTON i . (Feb United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 10. Warning shots were fired recently from the forts at the mouth of Wellington harbour when a man who was apparently fishing from a rowboat ventured into forbidden waters in Breaker Bay. He took the hint and departed. Some weeks ago Chaffer’s Passage and the adjoining waters were gazetted as closed to shipping, including small craft. Recently, apparently in ignorance, a fisherman ventured info the affected area, and to warn him that he was not allowed there, a burst from a Lewis gun was fired in his vicinitv. but not where there was any likelihood of hitting him. He thereupon shifted out of that area. No other action has been taken although it is understood that the police have power to prosecute for a breach of the regulations.
