PALMERSTON Rugby Football The following members of the Palmerston Club have been selected to represent Palmerston against the Dunedin Police at Palmerston on Saturday, the proceeds of the match to be devoted to the Air Force Queen:—Murdoch, Malloch, Roberts, Gunn, McLean. Mitchell, Davis, Penny, Cameron, McGregor, Heyes, Clearwater. Parkhill, Gray, and Haldane. Emergencies, Oliver and Philip. The club representatives in the basketball tourney will be; Clearwater, Parkhill, Cameron, Heyes, McGregor, Oliver, and Gunn. Air Force Queen A public meeting was held on Thursday evening in connection with the raising of funds for the Air Force Queen. The Mayor (Mr W. B Galloway) presided, and a local committee was formed with the Deputy Mayor (Dr T. T. Thomas) fas chairman, and Mr M, J. McCabe as secretary. The meeting was then adjourned until Saturday evening to complete the selection of a Countess, for the Walhemo district. Dr Thomas presided at this meeting, which was attended by over 80 representatives from Palmerston and the country districts. Five nominations were received, and Miss Betty Thomas was elected after balloting by elimination. Many suggestions were offered as to the best ways of raising funds for the -Air Force Queen, and after discussion it was agreed to hold a further meeting to advance any proposals adopted.

Community Sing The Town Hall was packed on Monday evening when another community sing, sponsored by the Boys’ Brigade, in aid of the Air Force Queen, was held. The Dun-

edin sing leaders, Messrs J. F, Hamburg and A. Pettitt, soon infused the community sing spirit into the large audience, with the result that an enjoyable evening was spent. Mr Robertson entertained with Scottish songs, and Miss Todd with dancing. The Mayor, Mr W. B. Galloway, introduced Miss Betty Thomas as the Countess of Waihemo. Miss Thomas returned thanks for the honour conferred upon her by the district. At the conclusion of the sing, Mr J. Lorrimer, on behalf of the Boys’ Brigade, said that the carnival funds would benefit to the extent of approximately £3O. Women’s Bowling Club The Palmerston Ladies’ Bowling Club held its thirteenth annual meeting on Thursday, when Mrs J. Sheppard presided. The following officers were elected: President. Mrs J. Sheppard (re-elected); vice-presidents, Mesdames Sinclair and A. Fraser: secretaries, Miss Mcßltchie and Mrs R. Cameron (re-elected); selectors— Mesdames J. Sheppard and R. Cameron, and Miss Mcßltchie.
