MATCH FOR PATRIOTIC FUND PUBLIC SERVICE v. UNIVERSITY A EVENT FOR SEPTEMBER 21 The executive committee of the Otago Rugby Union decided last evening that the prospects of a visit to Dunedin by an Army team from Burnham were so indefinite that it was justified in fixing a definite date for the match in aid of the patriotic fund between a Public Service team and a club team. Accordingly. September 21 was set aside as the date for a match at Carisbrook. The Public Service fifteen will be opposed by University A. The discussion began when the secretary (Mr E. S. Wilson) reported that he 'had written again to the officer commanding the Burnham camp concerning a visit by an Army team, but had had no reply. " I don't think there is any prospect of the visit eventuating." said Mr D. M. Spedding. The president (Mr D. C. Jolly) said that indecision regarding the proposed visit of an Army team was holding up the fixing of a date for the Public Service Rugby day. The Public Service Committee had been waiting for some time for a decision, and it was only fair that a definite arrangement should be made. If an Army team could come to Dunedin it could only be for a late date. The union's difficulty had been explained to the Public Service Committee, Mr Wilson said. The committee had made a tentative arrangement to play University A in aid of the Patriotic Fund. "It is their day," was the opinion of the meeting, and although- it was said that the question of the team to be played by the Public Service side should have been referred to the union, it was decided to make Carisbrook available on September 21 for a Public Service-University A match. The particular amplication of the proceeds is to be a matter for the Public Service Committee. . Seven-a-side Tournament A suggestion that a seven-a-side tournament might be welcomed by the Dunedin clubs as a means of helping their funds resulted in a decision to ask the clubs for their opinion of a tournament on September 28. The tournament would be restricted to the First, Second and Third Grades, and the proceeds would be divided among •the clubs participating. There would be no prizes. Fourth Grade Closed The Pirates F team was declared the winner of the Fourth Grade competition, in which Southern was runnerup. Opoho Ground It was reported that the City Council had not yet advised the union of any action regarding the top-dressing of the Opoho ground, although the union and the Alhambra Club were providing drains. It was decided to remind the council of its undertaking. FIXTURES FOR. SATURDAY Fixtures for Saturday were confirmed as follows: — First Grade—Pirates v. Southern, at Carisbrook, at 3 p.m. (Mr E. H.
