THE CORONATION STONE
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —British Israelites believe ihat the stone which Jacob used for a pillow one night, when he was on his way from Beersheba to Mesopotamia, is the identical stone that is under the coronation chair in Westminster Abbey. Your correspondent " Rachael," whose letter appears in to-day's paper, holds this view. What are the facts? This mysterious stone is merely a piece of Scottish sandstone and is of fairly large proportions, the dimensions of it being, in inches, about 26 by 16 by 11. The weight of it is nearly 2001 b. Possibly your correspondent does not know that the heads of the Geological Survey of Great Britain unanimously announce that no stone of the same kind is to be found anywhere in the Holy Land, while Professor W. Ramsay also affirms that no stone of the same kind has been seen either in Egypt or anywhere near Bethel.—l am, etc.. Maran-atha.
