CENTENNIAL ART EXHIBITION
OFFICIAL OPENING MANY GUESTS ATTEND Displayed in the Early Settlers’ Hall, the pictures representative of New Zealand art and collectively known as the National Centennial Exhibition were viewed last night by a large number of guests. The exhibition was opened by the Postmastergeneral (Mr F. Jones), who in his address stressed the importcnce of art in the life of the people. Before his audience dispersed to resume inspection of the works displayed, the director of the exhibition (Dr A. H. McLintock) and the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) spoke briefly. The atmosphere in the hall was warm and pleasant, and the attractive frocking of the women guests and the profusion of brightly-coloured flowers on the platform,, above which, set m flags wis the insignia of the Dunedin ' City Council, all contributed towards a spectacle worthy of the occasion. The Mayoress (Mrs A. H. Allen) wore a short white fur cape over a handsome gown of black velvet. Supper was served in the adjoining hall, where small tables held vases of pink sweet peas.
