Reunions are generally happy affairs, and the first meeting for 3940 of the Kaikorai branch of the Otago Home Economics’ Association on Monday last proved no exception. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs Knight, in Kaikorai. The president (Mrs Joseph) welcomed all members. The resignation of Mrs Smith for this year was received with regret The afternoon was spent in discussing the programme for the year.

There wgs a good attendance of women interested in patriotic work at the Borough Chambers, Balclutha, on Friday afternoon, representatives from various districts throughout South Otago being present. Donations of 37 tins of condensed milk were received from the box for the soldiers, and 144 skeins of wool were handed out to be made into gloves to be sent to Dunedin by the end of the month. Balclutha is now the depot from which the various South Otago organisations receive skein allocation of wool and material, the finished articles to be returned to the depot any Friday afternoon between the hour of 3 and 4 o’clock. The next meeting will be held on Friday next, in the Borough Council Chambers, at 3 p.m.. and every Friday thereafter, when any of the following gifts for the box will be gratefully received:—Tins of cigarettes tins of sweets, packets of biscuits (ginger nuts, sultanas or the like), writing nads envelopes, pencils, tooth paste tooth brushes, packet razor blades boot laces, pipe tobacco, tins of coffee and milk or cocoa and milk.
