Miss B. H. Nees, who went to Christchurch for the wddding of her niece, Miss Beatrice Douglas, to Mr A. F. Crawford, is visiting the West Coast before returning south.

Miss Teah Hicks and Miss. Isobelle Clarke, of the Wanganui general nursing staff, are spending their annual vacation, with the latter’s parents in London street.

The Dunedin Travel Club will hold a special meeting to-morrow morning in honour of Mrs Will Stuart, of Nukualofa, Tonga, who will be the speaker. Mrs Stuart has travelled extensively, is a graduate of Oxford University, and has spent many years in South Africa. , The hostesses will be Mrs Richard Hudson and Mrs John Leech.

Mrs M. Spence, of Invercargill, was hostess at an enjoyable “gift” afternoon at the Savoy 8n Saturday last. The guest of honour was Miss Gwladys Guild, a bride-elect. Among those present were:—Mesdames A. C. Mitchell, W. Cunningham, J. Witchall, T. Nelson, and Misses E. Heenan, F. Greenhalgh, L. Guild, V. Spence, and O, Turner.

The Logan Park Croquet Club held an enjoyable social day on its lawns on Thursday. Each member invited a player from a sister, cllib, and progressive doubles ' were flayed. The prize-winners were Mrs Campbell and Mrs Le Strange. Dainty meals were served in the pavilion. The speakers included Mrs Nelson (president of the association), Mrs McKinlay, and Mrs Bardsley.

The Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Y.M.C.A. held its its first meeting of the year on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Aslin presided over a good attendance of members, and Mr Don. Miller opened the meeting with a short prayer. Plans were made for the Street Day held in co-operation with the Salvation Army. (This day is to be held at the request of the National Patriotic Council in Wellington.) ' A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Miss Sheriff, a member of the auxiliary, whose death occurred recently.

To augment the Red Cross funds, two schoolgirls at Rangiora, Gwynneth Morgan and Helen Fincham, organised a bazaar and invited their school friends to purchase the sewing, sweets soft drinks, doll’s furniture, and other articles which they had made or collected from among their toys. The result was that, practically unaided, they were able to contribute £1 4s to the funds. Aged about nine, the girls planned the bazaar themselves, and carried out the whole project. They were naturally well pleased with the result.

Mrs C. T. Turnbull, assisted by Mrs R.M.Asher, was hostess, at a “cream and green kitchen ” evening given on Saturday at her residence, “Changrila,” St. Leonards, in honour of Miss Barbara Asher* a February bride-elect. The guests were Mesdames B. Macdonald, G. Hanley, R. Mabon. J. Green. C. Green, J. Cunningham, J. Turnbull, H. Macdonald. A. Tunnage. J. Robb and Misses Margaret Mabon, Susan Mabon. Agnes Robb, Peggie Allen, Margaret Haldane (Invercargill), M. Ferris. Marjorie Asher, Dorothy Smythe and Betty Treacy.

At a reunion of post-graduate nurses from all parts of New Zealand held in Wellington last week, the honoured guest was Miss Janet Moore, who is relinquishing the directorship of the course for post-graduate nurses, which she inaugurated with the assistance of Miss Bicknell, the former director of nursing, and Miss M. Lambie, who is the present director. Miss Moore was presented with a purse containing a cheque and an album containing signed snapshots of nurses who had trained under her. One hundred and fifty ■ post-graduates have trained under Miss Moore, and most of them now hold responsible administrative posts in New Zealand or overseas. The course is recognised as an integral part of advanced training for nursing and public health work in the Dominion. Several of the nurses who took the course started round robin letters which are still going. The first of these was started 10 years ago, and now takes a year to go the rounds, as it travels as far afield as Africa and the Pacific Islands. This “letter” was also handed to Miss Moore during the evening.
