BRASS BANDS
CENTENNIAL CONTEST HYMN TEST DECIDED WON BY AUCKLAND ARTILLERY (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 18. In the presence of a crowd estimated at 9000, the New Zealand Centennial Brass Bands’ Contest was begun in fine weather at the Basin Reserve today. Twenty-two bands and more than 500 bandsmen from all parts of the Dominion competed in the Hymn Test, which was won by Auckland, Artillery, with 93 points. Although the points awarded for the Hymn Test do not count for the championship, the test devoted to sacred music is considered an essential part of the New Zealand Brass Bands’ Contest.
