PIGEON FLYING

RACE FROM ASHBURTON The Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club flew its second race from Ashburton on Saturday. The stationmaster liberated 145 birds from 17 lofts at 10.30 a.m. in fine weather, there being an easterly wind. The winning bird completed the flight of 154 miles in three hours 22 minutes, at an average velocity of 1346 yards per minute. Results; D. Cunningham’s Major 1, J. Taylor’s Gillie 2, H. Millard’s Blue Note 3, A. Esquilant’s Andre 4. J. Scoullar’s Joy Mai 5. The club will fly its first Christchurch race next Saturday, on an airline distance of 200 miles.
