WORK IN ORCHARDS

COMPLIANCE WITH LEGISLATION REQUEST BY FRUITGROWERS (Per United Press Association) HASTINGS, Sept. 14. At a largely-attended meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Fruitgrowers’ Association to consider matters in connection with the suggested awards for orchard employees, the following resolution was carried unanimously:— “ That the fruitgrowers, being desirous of extending to employees the benefits of recent legislation with regard to wages and other conditions of labour, which at present they are unable to do because of the unsatisfactory financial position of the industry as a result of low prices both overseas and locally, request the Government to take immediate steps to ensure that the fruitgrowers shall be placed in a position to do so.”
