Having already taken part in five expeditions to the Antarctic, Captain Frank Hurley, the well-known Australian photographer is planning to go there again next year if the negotiations for the sending of a British Empire photographic expedition mature. Captain Hurley arrived at Auckland by the Niagara from Sydney in order to make a commercial film of some New Zealand forests. Two of Captain Hurley’s expeditions to the Antarctic were made with Sir Ernest Shackleton and three with Sir Douglas Mawson. When with Mawson’s expedition of 1911-14 he was one of the party which sledged to the South Magnetic Pole. During the Great War he was official photographer with the Australian Imperial Forces, and later he did much exploring and photographing in New Guinea and Central Australia. At present he is associated with the Cinesound productions. Worsley (New Zealand), who was captain of the endurance in Shackleton’s expedition of 1914, is to be the captain.
