OTAGO LICENSED VICTUALLERS’ BALL

The Concert Chamber of the Town Hall was charmingly decorated last evening when the Otago Licensed Victuallers’ Association held its annual ball. The colour scheme was red, blue, and green, enhanced with pearshaped coloured lights, a thick fringe of red, blue, and green streamers, interspersed with lights hung around the gallery, below which were suspended hanging baskets of fern. Pot plants formed a frieze around the entire hall, with banks of greenery here and there adding to the green note. From the centre of the roof hung ? huge red paper bowl from which red, green, and black streamers, lit with coloured lights, radiated to all sides of the room, with similar streamers in a giant tassel hanging below. -The orchestra sat on the stage, which was attractively banked with gumtree boughs, and had a row of pot plants across the footlights. Below was a lounge for the chaperones, with carpets and brown furniture similar to one arranged before a buffet in the entrance hall. The guests were received by Mr and Mrs J. W. Young, Mrs Young wearing a black French crepe model, with sleeves of embossed georgette, and a smartly-cut skirt with a waterfall at one side, and carrying a bouquet of spring flowers, the gift of the committee.
