MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Bowling Centre was held on Saturday night in Mr R. Hanning’s board room, Mr J. H. Hinton presiding over a large attendance of delegates. The chairman extended a welcome to Messrs F. J. Campbell (Anderson’s Bay), W. T. Henaghan (Caledonian), J. ■ Barrowman (Leith), C. M’Donald (North-East Valley), and W. Dryden (Opoho), the newly-appointed members of the executive. RINKS COMPETITIONS The secretary reported that 240 entries had been received for the Saturday rinks competition and 29 for the Wednesday competition.— The chairman said that the entry for the Saturday competition represented an advance of 15 rinks over last year’s entry.—The question of the dates of matches and the draw was left to the Draw Committee. OPENING DAY Some discussion ensued on the date of the opening day, and it was eventually decided that the Saturday competition be officially opened on October 31. APPOINTMENT OF SUBCOMMITTEES The following sub-committees were elected, the president to be an ex officio member of each committee; — Draw Committee. —Messrs G. A. Nelson (convener), Forster, Rowley, Richards and Davis. Selection Committee for interprovincial and intercentre matches. —Messrs Devereux (convener), Connor, Read, and Henaghan. Green Committee. —Messrs Longworth (convener), Melville and Campbell. Saturday Matches. —Messrs T. Smith (convener), Butler and Venn. Booklet Committee. —Messrs Callender, Thompson and the secretary (Mr R. Hanning). Visits Committee.—Messrs A. Cook (convener), M'Donald, Barrowman and Howard. GENERAL It w r as decided to issue an invitation to the Central Otago Bowling Centre to pay a visit to Dunedin during the coming season. KAITUNA CLUB’S SOCIAL A smoke social was held in the University Club Rooms on Saturday evening, when Mr W. F. Forrester, president of the Kaituna Bowling Club, presided over a good attendance. Mr Forrester intimated that, besides being a social meeting, members would be asked to consider the question of the erection of a pavilion at the new green. Mr James Fletcher had very generously offered his office erected at the site of the new Post Office. After a general discussion on the dismantling, re-erection, and estimated cost, it was resolved that Mr Fletcher be thanked for his generous gift and that tyie committed make all necessary arrangements for the erection and financing of the pavilion. It was also decided that the opening date for the season be Satui’day, October 10. A musical programme was presented by Messrs J. Haig, R. Duerdon, J. T. Leech, J. Devereaux, and F. Haig (songs); violin solo, Mr W. Le Gal; mid humorous stories by Mr F. H. Lafnpen. Mr M. Leech was the accompanist.
