APPRENTICES' ACT.
EMPLOYMENT FOR BOYS. ’ INQUIRIES AT INVERCARGILL. (From Qua Special Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL. January 14. Though a large', number of notifications has been sent to the local office of the Labour Department from boys leaving the primary schools, and desirous of being apprenticed to various trades, there has been no inquiry so far for actual employment for the boys concerned. The department’s officers are taking steps to ascertain from employers what positions are available for apprentices, and it is not anticipated that any great difficulty will be experienced in eventually finding places for all the boys who require them. The various committees, which have been set up under the recent legislation, are all functioning, and with the reopening of the Technical College next month it is probable that greater interest than ever will be taken in the work of the classes at which apprentices are in attendance by the individual members of the committee.
