BRIGHTENING THE GAME. A CANTERBURY DECISION. (Special ro Pailv Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 13. In future all matches in the competitions of the Canterbury Cricket Association will be allotted two definite Saturdays, and there will be no postponements of nlav. The innovation means that m the event of wet weather interfering with one day’s play the result will be judged on the play of the other day. If the play that has taken place within the period of the two days set apart for the match is inconclusive the game will be treated as drawn. Theobject o£ this amendment to the rule is to brighten up the play in f -rade matches. DAILY TIMES v. COMBINED THEATRICALS. The English Comedy Company and the Hector St. Clair Revue Company combined in a match against the Daily Times at the Caledonian Ground yesterday, proved full of incident, and m spite of the inclement weather was thoroughly enjoyed by all present, including a fair number of ladies from both companies. Batting first the Daily Times compiled 143 for six wickets (declared). The visitors replied with 75 for eight wickets, Pearce (59) giving a good display. For the Daily Times Bowie (53 retired) and Duncan (24 retired) were the chief scoreis.
