BANKRUPT ESTATES.
FIGURES FOR AUCKLAND. (Special ro Daili Timeb.) AUCKLAND, January 12. The returns of estates dealt with by the official assignee in bankruptcy at Auckland for the year ended December 31 last show that while there were more filings in bankruptcy a less amount of money was involved. Eighty-three of the estates were under £SOO, 64 under £2OOO, and 26 under £SOOO. These figures relate only to estates administered by the Auckland office, which has under its jurisdiction the area up to Dargaville in the north, but does not include Whangarei district, while to the south the town of Hamilton and on the east Gisborne and Napier are excluded from its authority. As already indicated, there were more failures in 1926 than in the previous yean Bankruptcies on petitions put in by debtors totalled 152, as compared with 115 in 1925. The number made bankrupt by petition of creditors was 27, as against 47 in the previous 12 months. The actual increase in the number of bankruptcies in 1926 as compared with 1925 was, therefore 17. The sums involved in the bankruptcies during 1926 show that the assets as per statements furnished (excluding amounts secured to creditors) totalled £99,163 14s 7d, against £94,760 19s 6d, an increase of £4403. The liabilities as ner statements filed (excluding the amounts secured to creditors) totalled £182,464 5s 3d, as compared with £185.553 7s lOd for the previous 12 months, a decrease of £3069. During the year just ended there were only six estates dealt with involving amounts of £SOOO upwards. There were two estates under £SO, 10 from £SO to £IOO, 32 from £IOO to £250, 39 from £250 to £SOO, 44 from £SOO to £IOOO, 20 from £IOOO to £2OOO, and 26 from £2OOO to £SOOO.
