SWIMMING DEMONSTRATION.

FAREWELL BY MR E. H. OLDS,

As an official farewell to the Dunedin public, Mr E. H. Olds (who has lately resigned his position of custodian of the Municipal Baths) and his family staged a demonstration of swimming, followed by a lantern show, in the swimming baths last night. There were also three junior races —two for girls, won by Clarice Lang and F. Lang respectively, and one for boys, won by W. Jarvis. The attendance was fairly good, and the evening passed pleasantly and smoothly. Mr Olds himself gave an exhibition of fancy swimming, Leslie Olds a demonstration of the crawl stroke, and Doug. Olds a demonstration of all-round swimming. Nancy, aged eight, also displayed her prowess in the water. The lantern pictures consisted of views of buildings and swimming pools in the United States, and surf riding scenes in Honolulu. At the conclusion of the entertainment, Mr Fred Foster started the singin r of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” those present joining in lustily, after which Mr Olds expressed his thanks. Many of the visitors took the opportunity as they left of wishing Mr Olds and his family every good fortune in his new sphere of life.
