OTAGO LABOUR COUNCIL.

The Otago Labour Council at its meeting on Thursday night received the report from the council’s delegates to the conference of the Trades and labour Council’s Federation A report was also received from the committee set up to bring forward recommendations to effect greater unity in the industrial labour movement of the dominion. The following resolution was adopted: “That a copy of the proposals bo sent to all unions affiliated to the council for consideration, and that a special meeting bo called in July to consider-same; and, further, that the council assist in every possible way in bringing about the merging of the Alliance of Labour and the Trades Council Federation in a comprehensive organisation of the working class, based upon the Federation’s Constitution.” As a result of correspondence with the Minister of Health on the question of compensation to bo paid as a recompense to bread-winners isolated by the infantile paralysis restrictions, it was reported that the Minister had undertaken to provide relief in special cases. Claimants are advised to communicate with the Medical Officer of Health, Dunedin. Mr Hiram Hunter, the workers’ representative on the Arbitration Court now sitting in Dunedin, received a warm welcome as a visitor.
