THE NORTH POLE
AMUNDSEN’S DASH
FINAL PREPARATIONS.
Preaa Aaicclotion —By Telegraph—Copyright,
LONDON, May 6. Captain Amundsen, wirelessing from King’s Bay on Tuesday, says: “RiiaerLarsen and Dietrichsen conferred with ilie meteorologists, and it was agreed that the weather is settled for some time. I oppressed the hop© that the Pram and Ho Hobby would sail northwards, so that the aeroplanes might leave for the Pole on Wednesday. The pilots received this decision as a mere everyday occurrence, and it was characteristic of the whole spirit of the expedition. “The day was devoted to a final examination of the aeroplanes, on which only absolute necessities will be carried, including arms and cartridges as a precaution against the curiosity of polar bears. “The Pram is taking up her base at Danes Island, but she will go further west if an opening is found. The Hobby, which is better equipped to resist the ice, is going as far east as possible. “The air flight towards the base may be the preliminary to a survey of the ice conditions beyond.”—A. and N.Z. Cable.
