PORT CHALMERS COUNCIL.
An ordinary, meeting of the newly elected Port Chalmers Council was held immediately after the mayoral installation yesterday. It was attended by the Mayor (Mr T. Anderson), and Crs F. Smith, R. Willmott, A. Bell, J. Morgan, W. Campbell, T. Mackie, A. Love, R. Allan, and W. Lunn. CORRESPONDENCE. Mr F. F. Martin, secretary of the Municipal Association, replied to an inquiry from the council, stating that it wa s not the practice for the association to give opinions to individual members of local- bodies. In. the instance in question the inquiry was signed “William Lunn, chairman Works, Sanitary , and By-laws, Port Chalmers Borough Council.” —The Mayor said this was the outcome of Cr Lunn obtaining an individual opinion in connection with which the question was referred by the council to the association.—Cr Lunn said he would get an opinion when he thought it was advisable. He moved that the letter lie received.—The lctter v was received. The Department of Internal Affairs advised that it had been decided that renewal fund commissioners appointed in pursuance of section 115, of the Corporation. Act, 1920, be authorised to invest money by way of first mortgage in real securities in Nqw Zealand. —Received. On the suggestion of the Mayor two representatives were appointed to confer with the West Harbour Council for the purpose of getting a late train during the week; getting a Sunday raeruing train, and getting the railway deviation extended beyond Ravensbourne. The council favoured an active policy with a view to securing an improved train service. The council afterwards, in committee, dealt with matters pertaining to the borough water supply.
