CITY POLICE COURT.

Tuesday, May 5. (Before Mr J, R. Bartholomew, S.M.) Drunkenness.—John Collins pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness.—. Sergeant M'Entee said that the defendant had been arrested in a state of helpless drunkenness.—Ho was lined ICs, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. Drunk in Charge of a Trap.—Edward Ezia Houghton pleaded guilty to a charge of having been found drunk while in charge of a horse and trap.—Sergeant M'Entee said that tho defendant was found by Constable Harris in King street. He was so drunk that he was leaning over the splashboard of the traji. He had no previous convictions. Delondant was fined £5. in default seven days’ imprisonment. Desertion. —Noel Brinck Homes, who appeared on remand, was charged with failure to maintain his wife.—Mr C. J. L. White appeared for the defendant, and stated that a telegram hacl been received from the man’s wife in which she expressed her willingness t.o accept his offer of 30s per week. The Magistrate said the defendant would have to obtain security. It was a deliberate case of desertion. He would order the defendant to pay 30s per week. £l2 arrears, and provide security on a bond for £IOO.
