Oil an application on behalf of Mrs Gertrude Atherton's cliild by the first marriage, the court granted letters of administration to her sister, Mrs H. Do Vere Stacpoole. Counsel said that no will had been made since Mrs Atherton married Captain Eliot.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
[Mrs Atherton, a famous society beauty, who was divorced in 1906, was found dead in her bedroom with part of her head blown away by a shot from a sporting gun. Tho door had been barricaded. Deceased recently married Captain Eliot, a grandson of tho third Earl of St. Germans, but subsequently they separated, the estrangement causing deceased to sufl'er depression. She apparently placed tho <butt of the gun on the floor and pressed the trigger with her ?°k P cc< - aso ° 'eft letters which indicated that she contemplated suicide. Tho husband of deceased collaborated with Captain Bairnsfa ier in producing tho play "The Better 'Ole."]
