NEW APPOINTMENTS FORESHADOWED.
(Pes United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 30. The Minister of Education stated to-day that the Uabinetf had approved of the appointment of a Chief Inspector of Primary Schools, whose work, inter alia, will bo the supervision and co-ordination of the work of the inspectors of primary schools throughout the dominion and the supervision and adjustment of a syllabus of instruction There was the important question of school books and the need for doing something in the direction of ensuring uniformity of text books on certain subjects, such as arithmetic and geography. Tho school-building branch of the department also needed straightening, not only to meet the extended building programme now bomg carried out, but to provide for future needs; therefore it had been decided to call for applications for an, officer havin K architectural knowledge and experience of school buildings to assist Mr Spencer. The Minister states that it is his intention to invite applications in New Zealand for the position of Director of Education. Dr Anderson's retirement will take as from March 31, 1920.
